Tamalpais Pet Hospital is a full-service veterinary medical facility, located in Mill Valley, CA. Our professional and courteous staff at Tamalpais Pet Hospital seeks to provide the best possible medical care, surgical care and dental care for their highly-valued patients. Our patients include dogs, cats, rabbits, rats, and other pocket pets.

Tamalpais Pet Hospital provides a very comfortable setting for our feline patients. Cats have their very own entrance, waiting area, and specially designed cat exam rooms. Our clients truly appreciate the steps that we've  taken to create a stress free environment for their cats.

We are committed to promoting responsible pet ownership, preventative health care and health-related educational opportunities for our clients. Tamalpais Pet Hospital strives to offer excellence in veterinary care to Marin County just as we have for the past 50 years.

  • Tim K. Haevernick, DVM

    Dr. Tim Haevernick was born in Hillsboro, Oregon and grew he up in Walnut Creek. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Cal State University Fresno in Animal Science. Then, to widen his experience, Dr. Haevernick worked at different practices as a licensed Animal Health Technician. After that, he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis in 1984. 

    Dr. Haevernick has been working here since he purchased Tamalpais Pet Hospital back in 1990. He has an unbelievable passion and commitment to the animals that he treats everyday. He thoroughly enjoys working and building relationships with our clients as well. Dr. Haevernick takes great pride in the staff of the hospital, and is a caring and supportive boss.
    Dr. Haevernick currently lives in Mill Valley with his wife Sandy. The two of them have two sons named Josh and Gage. They have 2 dogs named Buddy and Tessa and two cats named Lucy and Oliver. Dr. Haevernick is also a lover of the outdoors; he goes snow skiing, mountain biking, kite boarding and fly-fishing with the family.

  • Shay Redfield, DVM

    Dr. Shay Redfield is a native Australian and grew up in northern Australia. After graduating high school she travelled and ended up in the United States. She spent a few years as an elephant trainer before she decided to go back to school.

    She received undergraduate and graduate training at University of California, Davis. Before and during vet school she worked in the Intensive Care Unit at the teaching hospital. While in veterinary school she focused on small animal medicine. She has since worked in emergency and critical care as well as general day practice. For the last 6 years she was the Medical Director at two multi doctor practices.

    Dr. Redfield has a life long love of animals and grew up wanting to be a veterinarian from a young age. She has spent the last 7 years in Chicago and is glad to be back in Northern California after relocating for her husbands job. Today she enjoys her life in Marin with her husband, two sons, her dogs and cats. When not being a vet she spends time gardening, reading, biking and hiking.

    Special Interests: Dr. Redfield’s chief areas of interest are internal medicine, surgery, ultrasound, and critical care. She loves being a vet and the challenges faced daily in medicine.

  • Dr. Andrew Johnson, DVM

              Dr. Johnson is a native of Mill Valley and graduated from Tamalpais High School in 1999.  He received his bachelors degree in biology from UC Santa Cruz in 2004.  He spent the next 5 years working as a veterinary assistant at 2 separate hospitals in Northern California before being accepted at St. Matthew's University of Veterinary Medicine in Grand Cayman.  Dr. Johnson completed his clinical year of veterinary school at Purdue's School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014, achieving the valedictorian award of his class.  His areas of interest include community practice, surgery, clinical pathology and behavior medicine.  Dr. Johnson appreciates the one on one environment of family veterinary practice.  When not at work, he focuses his attention on his wife and young daughter.  His hobbies include travel, mountain biking and playing music.

  • Stephanie, Hospital Manager

    Stephanie has worked at Tamalpais Pet Hospital since 1989. (She started here before Dr. Haevernick purchased the practice!) She started her career as a kennel attendant and has worked in every position at this hospital. She has gone from a kennel attendant to veterinary assistant, receptionist and she is now our Hospital Manager taking charge of daily business operations while helping guild our crew of receptionists and other staff memebers. (She can do it all!) Her favorite aspect about work is watching our patient’s get older through the years.
    She is one of our Marin County natives, being born and raised in Novato. Stephanie dedicates her life to her wonderful son, Gabriel, and is an extraordinary mother that anyone could look up to.

  • Kaily, Finance Manager

    Kaily was the Practice Manager of Tamalpais Pet Hospital for nearly 9 years. Mid 2016, she and her family moved to North Carolina. Due to her dedication to the TPH, Kaily and Stephanie found a way to come together as a team and now Kaily is able to work remotely from home in NC and still be a part of the hospital. She says that her favorite part of working at the hospital is knowing that our staff works as a team to do everything possible for our patient's well being.
    Kaily is originally from Orange County. She spent the first 19 years of her life in So Cal with her family and then moved to the Bay Area in 2005. She has lived all over the Bay Area. She received her Associate degree from Santa Rosa Junior College with a double major in Psychology and Social and Behavioral Sciences.
    Kaily has many loves in her life: her beautiful daughter Juliette, her Husband Jake, her Cat Mateo and her dogs: Harley, Manny and Minnie. When she is at home, she loves hanging out with the family, watching movies, and absolutely loves Photography.

  • Barbara, Head Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)

    Barbara is our Head Veterinary Technician. She has been working at Tamalpais Pet Hospital for over five years now. She was born in Nebraska, and moved to the Bay Area. She graduated from Berkeley in 2009, majoring in Environmental Science. It has always been her dream to work in the animal field, and she thrives in all the work that she does here at TPH. She balances between caring for our patients, and leading and working side by side with the other RVTs and Veterinary Technicians on our team.
    In her spare time, Barbara plays the piano; she has been playing for over 21 years now. She sings in a choir. She also enjoys running obstacle races and road races with her Fiance.
    Plus, she loves to Travel... A LOT!
